Ayurveda, is one of the oldest forms of medicine in the world originating in India over 5000 yrs ago. Ayuh means life and Veda means knowledge and this knowledge is represented in all the complexities of nature; the metaphysical and physical aspects. We are body, mind and spirit drawing from a universal conciousness that cannot be separated as we strive to reach our highest personal goals in life.
Discomforts or dis-ease are part and parcel of our striving to fullfil our mandate in life in which ayurveda supplies us with the tools to better handle our trials and tribulations. Ayurveda is a medical science and its purpose is to heal and to maintain the quality, harmony and longevity of life through balance of our Doshas.
We will approach this by determining your personal Dosha (body type as per the 5 elements) through examination of the eyes, tongue and pulse along with a close look at your eating habits, lifestyle choices and sleeping patterns. We will then create a dossier with food recommendations, exercise suggestions including yogic breathing techniques and other lifestyle alternatives that will help you reach a more balanced state. In turn, it will allow you to have a stronger immune system in all three aspects: mind, body and spirit.
Ayurvedic medicine favours lifestyle changes over an allopathic approach.
We can also apply Craniosacral therapy if needed as it also takes on a whole person approach to healing. It enhances the functioning of the physiological body system that envelopes the brain by subtle touch to the bones of the skull. Life expresses itself as motion and at a fundamental level of our physiological functioning all healthy, living tissues subtly "breathe" with the motion of life - a phenomenon that produces rhythmic impulses which can be palpated by sensitive hands.
This massage does not involve kneading or stretching. It involves holding and loosening up the place where the nerves come out of the spine or the way that the brain is positioned inside the skull. It is the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord that comprise the body’s craniosacral system. This extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth (cranium) down to the tailbone area (sacrum).
Craniosacral therapy is suitable for people of all ages, including babies, children and the elderly, and can be effective in mild, acute or chronic cases.
